Harlem Shake Kicks Off 13th Annual Mr. And Miss Harlem Shake Contest
By HWM
One of Harlem’s most beloved summer traditions is back.
Harlem Shake, the iconic fast-casual restaurant known for its burgers, milkshakes and deep neighborhood roots, will launch the 13th annual Mr. and Miss Harlem Shake competition with a special Meet the Contestants Party on June 14, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at its flagship location at 100 W. 124th St.
Contestants will spend the afternoon mingling with guests while showcasing why they deserve to earn the coveted title.
The event will feature live entertainment from resident R&B and jazz performers C. Kelly Wright and the Soul Power Band, creating a festive atmosphere as supporters meet this year’s candidates.
Voting for the 2026 competition officially began June 8 and will continue through July 6. Customers can cast votes at Harlem Shake’s flagship location with a purchase. To mark the occasion, the restaurant has introduced two specialty milkshakes: the Knicksicle, inspired by the New York Knicks’ playoff run, and the Apollo Shake, celebrating the relighting of the historic Apollo Theater marquee.
The winner of the contest will receive more than just bragging rights. The new Mr. or Miss Harlem Shake will earn $1,000, a full year of free burgers at any Harlem Shake location, and the opportunity to direct a $500 donation to a Harlem-based charity of their choice. Their photo will also be added to the restaurant’s Wall of Fame, joining a growing list of distinguished winners.
Past titleholders have gone on to achieve success in media, entertainment and business. Alumni include NBC award-winner Kay Angrum, television personality Marco Glorious of “Sherri,” and actress Shannon Thornton.
The competition will culminate on July 12 with the Golden Cup Ceremony, where the 2026 winner will be officially crowned. During the event, the new Mr. or Miss Harlem Shake will receive a ceremonial sash, a Golden Cup filled with their favorite milkshake, and their prize package. The celebration will be hosted by former Miss Harlem Shake and global changemaker Aisha Diori.
