A Halloween milkshake, fall pasta specials and two visiting bartenders are on the menu in this edition of NYC Bites, along with a Scandinavian cooking event and an accessibility update at Melba’s.
Harlem Shake Goes After Dark
Harlem Shake is giving its signature red velvet milkshake a Halloween twist. Available October 15–November 15, the $12 Harlem After Dark blends organic vanilla ice cream, locally sourced red velvet cake and OREO cookie pieces, with house chocolate, whipped cream, OREO crunch and cake crumble finishing the job. Find it at the Harlem location, 100 West 124th Street at Lenox Avenue, and in Park Slope at 119 Fifth Avenue at Sterling Place, as well as through delivery.
Two Guest Bartenders Head to Love Thy Neighbor
Love Thy Neighbor in the West Village has two November dates for cocktail fans. On November 14, Mace and Danico founder Nico de Soto will serve four specialty cocktails in collaboration with The Macallan; on November 21, The Bellwood founder Atsushi Suzuki will take over the bar brining his signature Japanese bartending precision and creative approach to cocktails. Both events run from 8–11 p.m., with reservation sessions from 8–9:30 p.m. and 9:30–11 p.m. through Resy; booking details for Suzuki’s appearance are forthcoming.
Skinny Louie Adds a Brooklyn Address
Miami-born smash burger shop Skinny Louie has expanded into Brooklyn with a Park Slope location at 218 Flatbush Avenue. The menu keeps things focused on fresh Black Angus beef smash burgers, crispy fries and shakes. Founded in 2023, the brand follows its Manhattan expansion with this first Brooklyn outpost. To celebrate, on Friday Oct 16, 2026, the first 100 guests in line will receive a complimentary Skinny Louie Cheeseburger on a first-come, first-served basis.
Three Stops for National Pasta Month
October’s National Pasta Month offers a reason to check out some new fall dishes. At Carmine’s in Times Square and on the Upper West Side, specials include wild mushroom ravioli with white wine truffle cream, hazelnuts and sage, plus Carminelli alla Rosa in spicy pink sauce with stracciatella. At ’ino, 31 East 20th Street, chef Jamie Kenyon pairs housemade casarecce with venison ragù, wild mushrooms, roasted chestnuts and whipped ricotta, while Laurent Tourondel’s L’Amico, 849 Sixth Avenue, offers short rib mafaldine, sheep’s milk ricotta ravioli and seafood agnolotti filled with lobster, scallops, shrimp and crab.
Scandinavian Cooking at Scandinavia House
Chef and author Nichole Accettola, of San Francisco’s Kantine, heads to Scandinavia House on October 25 for a demonstration and tasting tied to her new cookbook, Scandinavian Everyday. Drawing on 15 years in Denmark and time in Sweden and Norway, Accettola will share dishes including mung bean fritters filled with goat cheese, a harvest braise and flødeboller, Danish meringue puffs. The event runs from 3–5 p.m. at 58 Park Avenue; tickets are $75.
